Ellon Detachment


The Badge to the right of you was our Regimental Cap Badge, The Gordon Highlanders, BYDAND


Ellon cadets parade on a Thursday night at Neil Ross Square, above RedZ, we start at 19:00 and finish at around about 21:00. The detachment has a fairly even mix of male and female cadets which seems to be getting bigger evey week! If your interested in joining come along and bring a friend!

History of the Army Cadet Force


1859 Formation of Volunteers to repel possible invasion from France.

1860 Volunteer units formed Cadet Companies, also in schools.

1908 Formation of Territorial Army. Title 'Cadet Force' introduced. Control
by Territorial Associations.

1914-18 Major expansion. War Office control.

1923 Territorial Associations resumed control.

1930 Withdrawal of all financial support: British National Cadet Association
(BNCA) formed.

1939-45 Major expansion - War Office Control.

1945 British National Cadet Association became the Army Cadet Force
Association (ACFA).

1959 Cadet Training Centre Frimley Park opened.

1960 Centenary: ACF Banner presented by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

1974 New Syllabus: Army Proficiency Certificate, replaced Certificate 'A'.

1985 125th Anniversary: Presentation of new Banner by HRH The Duke of
Edinburgh.

1992 New Charter and Motto: 'To Inspire, To Achieve'.

This Battalion covers the whole of Aberdeenshire, from Buckie to Laurencekirk, Aboyne to Fraserburgh. A Company covers the city of Aberdeen

B Company has 8 Detachments: -
